Christine Shanks | Designer & Photographer
Christine is a highly skilled creative professional bringing decades of experience and talents in design (web, interactive and print), motion graphics, printmaking (utilizing both traditional and digital processes), and photography (alternative processes, digital and film) to the True Creative team. She earned her BS in Visual Communications from Towson University and her MFA in Photography from The University of Delaware. She loves to explore many creative mediums, from more traditional skills like printmaking, photography and illustration to more modern digital based skills like web and motion graphics. Christine has worked on a range of commercial projects, mainly for non-profit clients, as she subscribes to the idea of “design for good”, designing for a positive social impact. She has also acted as an art director on several team projects collaborating with students and faculty. Her work as Lead Photographer and Creative Director in a team project for The City of Cortland’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant proposal helped the city win the 10 million dollar grant. As an avid birder, she has developed an extensive portfolio of photographs of birds, several of which can be found in bird identification apps. A personal passion of hers is consideration of the environmental sustainability of design mediums, finding the least toxic and most eco-friendly practices to create her work. Sustainable practices and presentation methods are an exciting burgeoning area to explore. The True Creative team has a passion for community advocacy, and Christine shares that passion, enjoying collaborating on projects that have an environmental or humanitarian mission. Her work in the art and design fields is most satisfying to her when she is able to use her lifelong passion for conservation, as well as my traditional and digital skills, to communicate. Christine believes strongly in being a life-long learner. Her approach to idea generation and complex-problem solving begins with connective thinking. She believes in looking at the picture broadly so expansion is a consideration in the concept development of any project.
